BecksC's Blog

When my nephews visited at Christmas we had a long discussion about existentialism, which the eldest said he agreed with. I explained that existentialism could mean all sorts of different things. For example, American literature, particularly by black authors is called existential because it is inte...

'Journey to the Manger' Book Review Hello all, I've begun a new blog on Weebly. Eventually, I'm hoping I can have a tab on the new site for my i-church archive. I hope I'll be able to share my vision for this blog as the site develops. A friend suggested ages ago that I start a food blog and I'm ser...

Thanks to everyone who prayed for me in January. I had a tough month after a lot of grief over various issues I think I'm starting to turn the corner. :cross:

Blogging on the new site

Hello admins, I can't find the blogs. I wrote a Paula Gooder review to post and the link doesn't appear to be live. Caroline had mentioned there'd be changes under the new regime & I had looked around for contingencies and where else I could host since i-church is not obliged, by any means, to keep ...

A Seasonal Thank You

Thanks for being present in my life & allowing some pleasant margin while the season has rushed upon us

I agree with Emle that Christmas is bittersweet for many. May you all know the comfort of the Holy Spirit tomorrow & his gentle peace.

I dropped the ball on listing this before the event because I've been ill. Church Live broadcasted a family Posada service on Sunday 20th December. You can find the Periscope here until tomorrow morning (Monday); https://twitter.com/churchlive https://twitter.com/DorchesterAbbey For some reason this...

I enjoyed this intimate & heartfelt service that included young voices. Do all Anglican churches offer full emersion baptism? I was baptised by a Church in Wales clergyman at a Pentecostal church, and there were Presbyterians there too. We got dunked together. I have only seen infant baptism perform...

I didn't see the full service because the video froze & then began playing from the beginning & I lacked patience after 3rd time. My question is why isn't the vicar in robes. Why are the choir not in robes? I loved the informality of the service, I just wondered where the ritual aspects had got to?

Pam, it's a treat to be reading together! I was doing 3 Carol Services I can't go to now. Hoping I'll be better by Christmas Eve when the choir do the Midnight Mass.

Commiserations Caroline. I like the little avi though. :)

I'm going to pop in with my throat infection this eve. Am really looking forward to reading this book over a quiet Christmas once my family have come & gone. I haven't been up to catching up because I'm feeling awful. I will use your insights to inform my reading later, forgive me if I'm quiet tonig...

I'm a little behind with our advent calender  Hopefully I can find time over the weekend to catch up.

My advent book arrived today & I can't wait to get started. Which chapter are you on now, just so as I know where to read up to? :reading: Really looking forward to digging deeper together.

ChurchLive will broadcast a baptism service tomorrow from St George's Leeds Sunday December 6th, 6.30 pm GMT By the looks of things they're a family orientated church who live tweet regularly during their 18.30 weekly service, which has its own twitter account. I am especially interested in this wee...

Thanks, Pam. For our special anniversary exhibition at Holy Trinity we dug through the archives of the parish newsletter. From the various groups & services available throughout the years I gather that introducing Welsh language & a specific prayer book was a big deal. I also went to a lecture on th...

Thank you, Joyce. I have Private Messaged you (or at least I will tomorrow). Brief thoughts from the 10.00 am - loved the traditional worship - liked how they split up single hymns to suit the liturgy with the end coming after prayers - the air of informality this lent to worship was great & it aide...

Churches can be extremely complex to understand. In my online worship space, pastoral care is done almost entirely horizontally. At Holy Trinity, the Anglican church I go to, separately from this, there are no "small groups" like I use online. Various official groups meet and represent Holy Trinity ...

My Wednesday schedule isn't as busy as it was. I could probably join you for chapel through advent. I miss our Friday chats while I completely understand why they are no longer. It was lovely to catch up with everyone in the new chat room, thanks to our members & technicians.

Joyce, firstly, no the Parish Assistant who appeared on Periscope did not use birthed as a verb. I used in a summary that I didn't claim was reported speech. You may be interested to know that birthed as a verb is listed in several dictionaries. While I admit it may be a rare usage, it is a valid tr...

Opportunities, (I will correct myself). I am guessing 'Pastoral Assistant' and 'Warden' are two different things and one is not prerequisite to the other?

I enjoyed the informal service from Hull. Nice, friendly vicar, testimony from lay people and a baptised child who was initiated into the church family. Also, the worship lent clarity to the theme of 'Christ the King.' (We wore paper hats at our church!) Okay, my big question this week, and you don'...
