It's interesting to separate things out a bit. We can all pray in private or in silence, and we know that our prayers are not dependent on other people knowing about them. It's better if the voice doesn't distract you from the content though! I once had a rector with a lovely speaking voice, who couldn't sing for toffee. He had to on occasions, and services went from being a pleasure to being full of little jolts.
