Grace to me means all those things, Ernest and Joe. In my experience Christians of all denominations accept ' By grace we are saved through faith, not by works ....' but that members of other faiths, even the ones who acknowledge Jesus as a prophet or a god or a spirit, have never heard of grace and...

Vote on women becoming Bishops in the Church of England

"What about those who are transgender or even those who are born with both genders? " Nobody is born with even one gender, Ernest, let alone two LOL Not where birth certificates and passports are issued in English anyway. In German, however, the gender of 'girl' is neuter, although I suppose her bi...

Vote on women becoming Bishops in the Church of England

Bishops of both SEXES Ernest, we hope. The gender role ,to use a sociological term, of a bishop should be neuter, or perhaps neutral. There may well be languages in which the noun 'bishop' is of the feminine gender. I don't know, I'll have to check-you've got me interested now. I know that...

Institutional unity wouldn't make sense on this side of the pond, Corbin. It's not an appropriate question for us.As our laws stand it doesn't work. And there are very few Lutheran churches here. They're mainly for American visitors. This is a Church of England site. England has an established Church...

Yes Ernest, not forgetting, 'This day you will be with me in Paradise' from Jesus' own lips to the repenting criminal crucified beside him.

Jesus not recognized as the Son of God

Richard 11, you are right. Belief in the salvation made freely available by Jesus by His death and resurrection is the beginning. Our life spent on Earth in The Kingdom of God from that point onwards is lived in the consciousness of what Jesus did for us and who He was. Otherwise the epistles, the O...

Jesus not recognized as the Son of God

If some people don't recognize Jesus as the Son of God, what happens to them after they die? If they reject the resurrection and the necessity for repentance and forgiveness of sins, do you mean, Corbin ? Jesus makes it clear that He is the way, and that the job of Christians is to go into all the ...

The chapel is open now, by the way. I got in at about 20.35. It said earlier that it would be open from 20.26 to 21.30 so I thought I'd give it a try.

Are all religions the same if they have Love?

It's nobody else's business to forgive or not forgive someone's sins unless they are affected by them.
It's reasonable to be wary of the sinner/former sinner if we are likely to be in danger from a repetition of the behaviour. Otherwise the Christian thing to do is MYOB.

Are all religions the same if they have Love?

It is the concept of forgiveness from a loving God given freely upon repentance that I have noticed is missing from the awareness of followers of 'other faiths'. Punishment looms large. The Muslim ones especially, perhaps because 'born' ones are not allowed to read their scripture in languages they ...

I've just found a notice on the AddonInteractive website saying that there were problems with the specific server that we connect to last night. Joe,it used to be said that if you burst a bag of flour in any crowded place in the UK,99% of the people you'd hit would be volunteers of some sort, whether through an organisation or informally. Legislation and regulation has restricted very much who can take part in voluntary work now, and what so...

I agree with Ernest that what employers are interested in is filling the gap they have. The last thing they are supposed to think about is who needs the job. It is illegal to assume a male is a breadwinner and therefore more worthy of employment, for example. When I was a school governor I interviewe...

Good points, Beth. I can see how geography would be a problem for someone trying to get back into work. If one doesn't live within an easy bus ride of a jobcentre jobclub or one of their outreach posts, there'll be less access to any help available. Praise The Lord for the internet, although even th...

I think it is a bit of an assumption that unemployment is addictive. What an understatement, Jae ! Very British. Very polite. I think addictions can lead to unemployment but to see unemployment in itself as an isolated addiction is condemning people who already will feel bad about lack of work .......

Corbin, you do realise, don't you, that this is a Church-of- England site ? It is, of course, like the CofE itself, open to anybody. However, hardly anybody in i-church is American. Some situations are totally different on this side of the pond. For one thing, everybody here lives in a parish. A pari...
