Software Updates

Post by Caroline » Fri Jan 12, 2018 12:18 pm

I have software updates to do on the Courtyard over the next couple of weeks. These are moderately large updates, so please bear with me if the forum is down for a while!

As always, if you find anything that looks odd after the updates, please let me know. :)

Just a brief update on the updates! They are not 'moderately large' as I thought, but quite enormous, and require me to do a lot of re-coding work before they can be made. They are therefore going to take a little longer than I anticipated.

There may be a few small differences to the forums after the update, but nothing major, and I will ensure that all current facilities will still be here.

That sounds like a lot of work, Caroline.

Thank you for looking after our online home!

The time is nigh... :help:

I think I have (probably) done all the necessary recoding, and I am hoping to install the updates later this week.

Be warned that this will mean that not only is the site unavailable for a time, but it may appear to not exist... ... I promise that this will be a temporary state of affairs (and actually it will just be hiding).

Mwahahahah... oops, sorry.

I can tell you that it won't be today because it's raining. Seriously. My satellite broadband keeps disconnecting because it doesn't like the rain. It doesn't like snow either, but that's OK because when it snows I go outside to play in it, and don't try to do complicated things with computers.

Rain, rain, go away,
Come not on an update day.

:snowball: (enough of that)

Well. we're back. You may notice a few differences - I've changed as much as I could to the way we had it before, but if there is anything - anything at all - that you think should have been changed, or you would like to be changed, please let me know. I can't believe that there isn't anything I've missed.

And now I need a long lie down in a darkened room.

Thanks for your hard work Caroline.

It looks and feels slightly different, but everything is still working (so far) so well done for getting through such a complex site upgrade :

Oops, Caroline, now there's an entry "Re: Joe's Blog" on Joe' Blog, and a couple of entries on the Light a Candle called "Re: Light a Candle"; they really don't affect anything, but maybe you could check them out.
Many thanks.
Peace and Easter blessings,
Joe

Yes, I spotted them. There's nothing I can do about the ones that are there, but any new entries won't have the 'Re:' so they'll disappear from the front page as new posts are made.

Believe it or not that's the standard phpBB format - I've always tweaked the code to get rid of it. The update undid my tweak, but I've redone it.

The "Software Updates" seem to get buried in the other topics rather than getting prioritized by date now.

Caroline
When reviewing my Profile/PM's I get an error message

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysqli ]

Table 'courtyard_archive.phpbb_privmsgs_folder' doesn't exist [1146]

An SQL error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact the Board Administrator if this problem persists

As I don't talk SQL I haven't a clue what this means?

Thanks Ernie - that is related to a problem I have raised with the software creators. I'm waiting for a response from them. I will go and chivvy them.

I've just had a crash course in database management, and I think it should be alright now.
