Today is the day we commemorate the beheading of a priest by giving one another chocolates and heart shaped things...

We don't have our own entry for St Valentine (although if anyone would like to write one I'd be happy to add it!) so I have a link to another site for you.

We do have a video celebrating God's love for every one of us though.

Happy Valentines, every one

And perhaps it is fitting that on this day this year when we celebrate the value of love, we also remember the Saint who gave his life to show us God loves us no matter what. And may we keep a Holy Lent in remembrance of the One, Christ Jesus, who gave us all the love God has.
Peace and Ash Wednesday blessings,
Joe

Ash Wednesday - A brief history
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/01775b.htm
Ash "Wednesday <> is the first day of the Lenten fast.
"The name dies cinerum (day of ashes) which it bears in the Roman Missal is found in the earliest existing copies of the Gregorian Sacramentary and probably dates from at least the eighth century.
<>
It is mentioned as of general observance for both clerics and faithful in the Synod of Beneventum, 1091 (Mansi, XX, 739), but nearly a hundred years earlier than this the Anglo-Saxon homilist Ælfric assumes that it applies to all classes of men."
Peace and blessings,
Joe

This year is a rare occasion when Ash Wednesday coincides with St. Valentines Day. It last happened in 1945 (preceded by 1934 and 1923) and will happen again in 2029.

As our Ashing service yesterday, our Vicar managed to combine Ash Wednesday sermon by mentioning Love quite a few times.

After the service, we were each given a small Heart Shaped Badge to wear to signify the Love and Sacrifice that Jesus made for us all.

A lovely touch. :cross:
Where there is hope and love there is life!
God is Life!
God is Hope!
God is Love!
God Is!!
