I think it's the third - I'll see what I can do as you don't seem to be an irresponsible spammer!

You get the ability to have both when you've made 5 posts and been a member for 2 days, so I guess this post qualified you!

In fact we're very happy to take people out of this restricted group earlier if we know they aren't spammers.

Fantastic, thanks for that Pam & Caroline. I may well adopt another avatar when I dream up a better one.

Any chance of letting me access private messages - I have one but cannot access it.

I will try to post a fifth message and see if that works

It might be that posting this message is all I need to do to get access to private messages.

Caroline, I still cannot use it. I go to profile, then click on edit avatar. When I do this it states "The avatar functionality is currently disabled". I do not know if I am going about uploading it wrong or if the site or my account has the function disabled.

Pam, ya gotta take a chance!! Besides they may all say that but do they have an honest smile like me?

It really should be OK now. We were both doing the right thing, but the software was overruling us.* I have dealt with it and it won't be doing that again! :paranoid:

*Not, I hasten to add, because it thought you were a spammer - it was totally convinced by your smile - but because it doesn't like us breaking the rules.

If you're in the UK, don't forget to change your forum time by clicking on 'Profile' from the bar at the top of the page, then choosing 'Board preferences' from the list on the left and un-ticking the box that says 'summertime is in effect'.

The latest free version of Avast has been blocking java and preventing me from getting into the chatroom.

If you are getting a perpetual loading symbol (a spinning cog in the middle of the chatroom screen), you may need to add an exclusion to your antivirus software.

For Avast, you should do this:
  • open up the User Interface (right click on the orange symbol in your taskbar and choose it from the menu),
  • click on 'Settings' at the top right of the screen,
  • choose 'Exclusions' from the list on the left,
  • put http://client11.addonchat.com/chat.js into the box where it says '(enter path)' and
  • click on 'Add' at the bottom of the screen.
I'm sure the method is similar for other antivirus products!

Might I inquire how to set one's signature? I cannot find it under the control panel or its submenus.

Welcome to i-church, Anglican Pilgrim.

To set your signature, click on 'Profile' at the top of the page, then 'Profile' again, then' Edit your signature'. It should open a window for you to type your signature in.

Glo is absolutely right, Anglican Pilgrim, but you will have been having a problem because members who have just registered can't have signatures until we're sure they're not spammers. You're clearly not, and you should be fine to add one now.

I have seen posts with little icons like smiley faces and candles, how do you add them to posts?

When you're on a computer there is a box next to the reply box that contains all the smileys - you just click on the one you want and it appears in your post.

I don't have my mobile to hand, but I suspect that you don't get that display when you post from a phone or tablet. However, if you type the following codes into your post you get some of the smileys:

Code: Select all

:) gives you a smiley face
:votive2: or :votive1: gives you a blue or white candle
:bye: gives you a waving smiley
 gives you a thumbs up smiley

Morning xxx

I seem to be having problems adding images to my blog today. It keeps telling me that it can't determine the size of the image. I've tried different pictures and sizes. I'm not sure if there's a small problem or I'm having a brain fog ;) xxxx
This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine.
