If you get a message saying that the Chapel or Cafe is closed, that simply means that the room is closed, and will be opened shortly. We're usually pretty good about this, but life is unpredictable and occasionally we are a bit late. Service leaders can open rooms if necessary, so if this does happen, please hang around and try a few minutes later. We are unable to leave the rooms open all the time because when we did so the facility was abused, and we take our duty of care toward members very seriously.
Java sometimes gives problems. There is nothing we can do about this, because it is software that is installed on your computer and is completely independent from i-church. You can make things as smooth as possible by ensuring that your version of Java is up to date (check
here). It is also a good idea to make sure that your browser is up to date. If you still have problems it is always worth trying a different browser. At the moment I find that Chrome is the most efficient browser for Java based applications, but other people have different experiences, and sometimes this changes after browser or Java updates.
If you are able to enter the chatroom and then have problems with the functioning of the room this is likely to be an issue with your computer. As Jae says, it is sensible to close down other applications so that they are not competing for resources.
As always, with any performance issues on your computer, try clearing your cache (Press Control Shift and Delete at the same time and follow the instructions), try closing your browser and reopening it, and, if necessary, start your browser in Safe Mode with add-ons disabled.
Kindness is underrated.
