The situation with Iran is a very serious and dangerous one at the moment.

The killing of the Iranian General by the USA has caused a swell of dissent in Iran, with millions on the street with threats of retaliation against the USA and other foreign troops in Iraq and elsewhere.

The US President is demonstrating a reckless disregard for the Rule of Law with his actions and threats, which only go further in provoking reaction not just from Iran, but from others who would use this as an excuse for random attacks on nationals of the USA or other nations anywhere in the world.

There could be a war between the two countries, our own government seems quite alarmed, although the PM's rhetoric contributes nothing to encourage restraint.

With his actions in provocation against North Korea earlier in his term, he demonstrated that he cares nothing for international diplomacy norms and he appears set on a war like course of action, which might be connected to his desire to be re-elected later this year.

My prayers are for a peaceful outcome, but that seems less likely every day that passes. :votive1: :votive1:

It appears that Iran has retaliated against the USA by firing missiles as Air Bases in Iraq, where the USA has troops based. No news of any damage or casualties so far, but whether the USA will respond is unclear.

Prayers for deescalation and some sort of peace intervention by the UN, to bring both sides to the table for talks. :votive2: :votive2:

A prayer from the CAFOD website:

Lord Jesus,

The angels who announced your birth
sang of peace; and Mary your mother
treasured their words in her heart.

Today we strive to bring about a world
where all your children live free
from the threat of violence and war.

May we be lovers of peace,
givers and creators of hope.

We long for the time
when those who go hungry are filled with good things
and the lowly are raised high.

May we be inspired by your love,
to transform weapons of war into tools of peace.

Today Iran has announced that they shot down, by accident, the Ukrainian Aircraft several days ago, which killed all 176 people on board. It alleges that the Plane flew close to a sensitive military installation on takeoff and human error prompted the release of a Surface to Air Missile.

The Iranian Foreign Minister has blamed the heightened tensions caused by the USA, and the operators of the missile system mistook the Plane for a hostile intruder.

This comes after continuous denials from the Regime.

There will be lots of questions I am sure, but all we can do is to pray for those who died unnecessarily from so called human error. :votive1: :votive1:

I do think that Iran has redefined the word 'unintentional'.

Makes one wonder how many more 'accidents' are waiting to happen.Dreadful.

I've been aware of 'news' for 68 years give or take a few months, and I can't recall that from that part of the world it's ever been about anything other than fighting. When it's not on our news it's because TV and radio stations don't consider mayhem in the Middle East anything out of the ordinary. A little channel-hopping or World Service listening will tell one how many atrocities have taken place on any given day.
It's a sad world when it takes the assasination of a general or the downing of a civilian passenger plane to be regarded by the media as man-bites-dog whereupon we learn about what's been going since last we heard.

Alas, there is too long a list of these incidents over the past 90 years: ... _incidents
May God spare us and all from future such incidents.
In the mighty name of Jesus we pray.

Luckily, things look like they're not going to escalate any further this time.

Yes, it seems that sense has been seen. But with such unpredictable leaders in both Iran and the USA, who knows when the next crisis erupts?

Prayers continue for peace and reconciliation and a permanent pull back from confrontations, which are so dangerous for peace in a troubled region :votive2: :votive2:
