LENT GROUP WEEK 2 - 27.2.18

Post by Pam » Tue Feb 27, 2018 7:25 pm

Matthew 13:44

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid; then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

This week's reflection is from Debbie Pow, Chaplain to Send a Cow. It can be read here.

Debbie reflects on how the manure produced by the cows sent to farmers in Uganda became a 'hidden treasure' because it increased the yield of the crops they were growing. She tells how some children at a local school in her parish became enthused by the story of how the cow's poo was helping the farmers, and raised money towards sending a cow to a farmer called Stephanie.

The school chose the
Rwandan name Sebahive. Imaginations had
been caught by its meaning: ‘bringer of good
fortune’. Sebahive was going to be treasure to
her new owner.

Stephanie said that the day she received
Sebahive was a ‘dancing day’. Even before
Sebahive produces a calf and milk, she knows
that the manure alone is going to make a
difference to her family by increasing the
amount of food she can grow.

Before Stephanie worked with Send a Cow,
she struggled to feed her family even one
basic meal a day at times. Now they eat two
meals a day of good fresh food and feel better
for it. With Sebahive, her gift from God, she
knows she will have treasure hidden in her
fields and good fortune coming her way that
she can share with those around her.
