LENT GROUP WEEK 3 - 6.3.18

Post by Pam » Tue Mar 06, 2018 6:40 pm

From the Send A Cow story for this week:

A visit to Jude Lubega, whom we had first
seen in 2007, followed the next day. Orphaned
in 2002 when he was 12 years old, he had been
abandoned by his two elder brothers and left
with his four siblings. At that time, Jude was
in the same dire situation as Kasiita. Their visit
found an amazing transformation.
We found an amazing transformation. Since
receiving a cow from Send a Cow in 2004,
he is now a successful farmer, a prominent
entrepreneur, landlord and trader. He grows
coffee, bananas and maize, and plans to set
up a milling factory. He has built shops and
residential units. His influence directly benefits
over 100 people and he employs six workers.
Determined to help his community, he gives
loans to neighbours but refuses any interest
payments – saying “I was helped, now it is my
turn to help others.”
He told us: “Send a Cow is our torch, our light
which opened doors, our cornerstone and our
foundation. You may think the support is very
small, but to us it is the whole world.”

2 Corinthians 9: 6-1

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”

10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 12 This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 13 Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. 14 And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has
given you. 15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Prayer suggestions:

Prayer
Pray for those who are in need and
ask for guidance as to where our
efforts should be directed.

Thank God for those who have
been inspired to start charities
which really make a difference. In
particular for all the work of Send
a Cow in its 30 years of work in
Africa and the many people who
have been lifted out of poverty.

Pray that we will be ‘cheerful
givers’ of whatever we can afford,
always thanking God for his
indescribable generosity
