"Rules to Order the Christian Year". Church of England. 2015. Retrieved 14 May 2015. Rogation Days are the three days before Ascension Day, when prayer is offered for God's blessing on the fruits of the earth and on human labour. The nine days after Ascension Day until Pentecost are days of prayer and preparation to celebrate the outpouring of the Spirit.

In the United States Memorial Day is Monday, May 29.

We remember those who put their lives in harms way, and some who gave their all and left their families behind. We pray for all of them, and for peace in the world. :praying:

We are seeing soldiers on our streets due to security concerns, Armed with Rifles, which 40 years ago, would have caused outrage. Even in the days when I went to Northern Ireland, I can remember the outrage in the National Media that Armed Soldiers were on the streets. We used fixed bayonets at one stage, but this caused an even bigger outcry.

Soldiers put themselves in harms way to protect society, as do Police and other emergency services - risk averse isn't the words in our vocabulary as risk taking is part of the job description. I can't say that I am sorry to be retired, military personal today, face more tours and danger than even those that we faced in Ulster.

Prayers for all who service their nations unselfishly in our, much more dangerous world. :votive2: :votive2:

One of my acquaintances was a member of the National Guard, which here in the US makes one usually think of as a local trained soldier who has a civilian job and is occasionally called out to help in a major storm or other weather crisis, but he spent a year in Iraq and was heading at another time to Afghanistan. He was a mortgage specialist attorney. Now we have the National Guard and regular soldiers with weapons stationed in bus terminals and elsewhere, along with several civilian police and so on. They face risks and uncertainties for sure in these days and times and need our respect. :praying:
Peace and blessings,
Joe
